2008: The origins
2008: The origins
The idea for MainStreet Partners was born on a biking trip across South America. Witnessing the region’s poverty and lack of development prompted Rodolfo Fracassi and Andrea Carati to think if there was a better use of their asset management experience. Once back to Europe in the summer of 2008, they founded MainStreet Partners initially as a placement agent servicing the impact investment space. During its first three years, MainStreet Partners successfully raised over USD 100 million on behalf of prominent fund managers including responsAbility, BlueOrchard, Bamboo Capital Partners, Incofin Investment Management and EmVest.
2011: Becoming an investment company
Building on the successful first three years, in 2011 MainStreet Partners evolved into a regulated investment company and opened its London office.
2012: Fonditalia Ethical Investment
Partnering with Fideuram Asset Management, part of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, MainStreet Partners launched the first Luxembourg based open-ended fund investing in thematic fixed income instruments including green bonds, sustainability bonds and social bonds.
2013: Microfinance 1
MainStreet Partners approached the largest Foundation in Italy – Cariplo Foundation – and other leading asset owners to launch Microfinance 1, a close-ended fund focused on the Micro and SME finance sector. Microfinance 1 is currently managed in partnership with Quadrivio Capital – one of the largest private equity firms in Italy.
2015: Investimenti Sostenibili
Partnering with the Sella Gestioni SGR, the asset management company of the Banca Sella Group, MainStreet Partners launched an open-ended global balanced impact fund dedicated to retail and institutional investors. In late 2016 the fund was listed on the Milan Stock Exchange becoming the first broadly diversified impact fund to be listed on a major exchange.
2016: Sustainable Finance Fund
With Quadrivio Capital and FundPartners Solutions (part of the Pictet Group), MainStreet Partners launched the first open-ended fund investing in publicly traded financial institutions that serve micro-small-medium enterprises in emerging and frontier markets.
MainStreet Partners has history of innovation by pushing the boundaries of impact investing to new strategies and solutions without compromising its mission to combine social, environmental and financial results. The company is also involved in various industry groups, including the G8 Social Impact Investment Taskforce, the MSCI Thought Leaders Council on Impact Investing and a member of the Green Bond Principles.
