Wessanen was founded in 1765 by Adriaan Wessanen and started as a small family business active in the trading of all sorts of seeds, especially mustard and canary seeds. Sustainability has always been at the core of Wessanen’s approach as demonstrated by the social benefits offered to employees in the 1920’s to support them during the deep economic crisis. In 2015 the company completed a full transition to organic and natural food products with the sale of its last non-core activities. Wessanen controls some of the most well-known brands in Europe such as Bjorg, Clipper, and Isola Bio.
