Joe is a senior international development executive with over twenty years of experience in the multilateral system and a record of policymaking and thought leadership. As Economic Adviser to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, he led the work of the Executive Office on the preparations of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). An economist by training, Joe has built a career in development finance, first at the World Bank in Washington DC, and later in London, at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), including as Advisor to its Board of Directors. As a banker, Joe worked with corporate parties and governments to finance infrastructure projects in emerging markets. He also lived in the Congo, where he advised the Central Bank on monetary policy. His book “Learning from the World: New Ideas to Redevelop America” was published by Palgrave Macmillan. He received his graduate degrees from Harvard University in the US and the University of Warwick in the UK, and his Laurea in Economics from the University of Turin in Italy. He lives in New York with his Danish wife and three daughters.
